PAVA office is a design intervention on-going project with utmost respect of users’ context and memory. The first phase of adaptive-reuse focuses on the revitalization of vacant residential building resulted from the over-supply rental areas and economic suppression. The existing “room into room” condition is redesigned to be the “open floor plan” in order to maximize the flexibility in terms of user activities, construction costs and design studio operations. Although, the old wall is demolished to create linkage space, but the design still value and keep the trace of existing room boundaries. As a form of exposed concrete linear element, this memorable line represents an untold story of life. The old wooden parquet is also conserved and redesigned to exhibit its “intrinsic” color and texture of materiality. Utilities and other infrastructure are repositioned to be hanged from the ceiling as the other layer of project system. Under the umbrella of maintaining the spirit of place and minimizing construction waste, plywood and solid timber are designed to be hand-made furniture. In other words, honest materiality, straightforward thought, simple design move are all deliberately embedded into our studio spaces.
